VIT names Ruddy COO
Virginia International Terminals said Thursday it has named Joseph Ruddy as chief operating officer.
He replaces Richard Knapp, who retired Oct. 30. Ruddy has served as VIT's director of operations and labor for the last two years and before that he served four years as general manager of Virginia Intermodal Management, parent company of the Hampton Roads Chassis Pool.
'He has an excellent relationship with the ILA and has been involved in labor and contract negotiations with VIT,' said Joseph Dorto, VIT's general manager and chief executive officer. 'He is part of the team working on the lease-agreement negotiations with APMT — he has some very valuable experience and because of that the plan all along was to move him up through the ranks.'
