Eimskip acquires reefer logistics company

The Icelandic shipping company has acquired 90 percent of the forwarding company Extraco Internationale Expeditie B.V. in the Netherlands.

   The Icelandic shipping company Eimskip said Tuesday it has acquired 90 percent of the forwarding company Extraco Internatinale Expeditie B.V. in the Netherlands.
   Situated near the Port of Rotterdam, Extraco services importers of chilled and frozen commodities in the Netherlands; and provides import handling, warehousing, customs brokerage, and distribution of bulk, chilled and frozen commodities in Europe.
   Extraco employs 19 people and the majority of the company’s management team will stay on board and own a 10 percent share. Its annual turnover is around 19 million euros (U.S. $20.8 million).
   Extraco will move into Eimskip’s office in Rotterdam and will establish a reefer logistics center with the other Eimskip identities – European Transport Services, Eimskip Reefer Logistics and Jac. Meisner. Eimskip acquired Jac. Meisner at the beginning of 2015.
   Eimskip said the Extraco acquisition is the first of several accretive acquisitions it will be making in its core markets in the coming months.
