CSX CORP. NAMES WARD PRESIDENT
CSX Corp.'s board of directors have elected Michael J. Ward as president, replacing John W. Snow, who remains chairman and chief executive officer of the Richmond, Va.-based company.
Ward remains president of CSX Transportation Inc., the rail unit and the corporation's major business unit. As president of CSX Corp., CSX Intermodal and CSX Technology will also report to Ward.
'CSX today is very much a rail-based company, and this appointment marks an important step in our process to assure a smooth leadership transition in the future,' Snow said.
Ward, 51, has spent his entire 25-year career with the railroad. Prior to being named president of CSXT in December 2000, he served as executive vice president-operations. He formerly headed CSXT's coal business unit, managed Conrail merger planning and was the railroad's chief financial officer.
'Michael Ward has led an impressive turnaround at CSX Transportation since taking charge of rail operations in early 2000,' Snow said. Ward saw the company through service and safety issues following its acquisition of a share of the Conrail system.
