MITSUI & CO. (USA) SELECTS DESCARTES FOR MONITORING SOFTWARE

   Mitsui & Co. (USA) has contracted with the Descartes Systems Group, Inc., a provider of logistics management technology, for software solutions to control the movement of goods across multiple modes of transportation.

   Mitsui USA, a “sogo shosha” or trading house, is involved in import and export operations, offshore and domestic trading, market research, logistics services, and credit and risk management. Two subsidiaries, American Tri-Net Express Inc., and Intermodal Terminal Inc., have used Descartes’s global visibility solution in a beta try-out period.

   The solution allows Mitsui and its subsidiaries to look up the status of a shipment on a web browser, receive e-mail alerts when delays are expected, and monitor logistics services through a central network.

   “After this initial project, Descartes has become a strategic partner for our operations,” said Masaaki Iida, senior vice president of Mitsui USA’s transportation logistics division.

   Descartes is based in Waterloo, Ontario.
