Seaboard says Norfolk Southern links restored

Seaboard Marine said Wednesday that intermodal connections involving the Norfolk Southern railroad had been fully resumed, after South Georgia wildfires last Friday disrupted some traffic between Florida and the Norfolk Southern network in the Southeast.

Norfolk Southern has intermodal terminals at the Port of Jacksonville's Talleyrand Marine Terminal, as well as in Savannah and Atlanta, Ga. Norfolk Southern then connects with the Florida East Coast Railway for service in and out of Florida.

That service was interrupted beginning last Friday, and Seaboard said Norfolk Southern was not accepting freight for Florida destinations. That embargo on Florida freight was lifted Wednesday.

Seaboard said it had been able to successfully reroute containers destined for the Norfolk Southern system by using truck and other rail carriers, but the routing changes caused some 'modest delays.'

Seaboard said that because of the high number of trains with Florida inbound freight, customers should expect a 24- to 48-hour delay in grounding and loading of shipments.
