U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the shoes were seized by staff assigned to the ports of Los Angles and Long Beach, and if genuine, they would have had a total estimated manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $4.29 million.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers and Center of Excellence and Expertise staff assigned to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach seized 7,800 pairs of shoes bearing counterfeit “Salvatore Ferragamo” trademarks, CBP said.
The shoes arrived in two separate shipments from China July 20.
If genuine, they would have had a total estimated manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $4.29 million.
In fiscal year 2015, CBP seized approximately $1.35 billion worth of counterfeit goods from overseas, primarily originating from China, followed by Hong Kong, Singapore, Romania and Turkey. Apparel, consumer electronics and footwear comprised the largest number of counterfeit and pirated items seized during the year, with the total estimated value of seizures up by over 10 percent from fiscal year 2014.
