In keeping with its refreshing of its lineup over the past few years, Navistar has announced a new vocational model at the North American Commercial Vehicle Show in Atlanta this week.
The HV Series features the company’s proprietary A26 12.4L engine and streamlines the upfitting process.
“The new International HV Series is just one more truck in our product lineup that puts drivers first and meets the grueling demands of vocational applications,” said Michael Cancelliere, president, Truck and Parts. “The HV Series is a smart solution for our customers in the business of doing serious work and is a new breed of vocational truck that redefines the standard for uptime and productivity. It is the go-to truck for those who know that it’s not just about getting the job done, it is about getting it done right.”
Inside the cab, Mark Stasel, Navistar vice president of product design for vocational trucks, said it was designed with the drivers first in mind. The door is twice as stiff as previous models, which helps create a better seal to prevent air leaks and lowers the noise factor.
The company eliminated the vent windows in the doors which allowed it to move the pedestal mirrors forward slightly, making it easier for drivers to check their mirrors without turning their heads as much. The gauge cluster has been adopted from the linehaul products with better visibility of readouts. There is a new stalk shifter that puts more controls at the driver’s hands and a “wing panel” of switches that is easier to reach, backlit for easier reading at night, and holding room for up to 30 customizable switches.
The HV Series also features the Diamond Logic electrical system for the automation of tasks and interlocks to help protect both equipment and crew.
On the outside, the HV features standard rugged-duty features to help it perform on the jobsite. These include:
- Heavy duty, double-sided galvanized steel cab for long-term durability.
- Huck bolt chassis fasteners provide superior clamping force and will not come loose even in extreme environments.
- Also available with a clean Cab-to-Axle (CA) configuration to minimize costly post-production modifications.
- 20,000 lb. off-set bowl front drive axle allows for a lower ride height than a traditional center bowl.
- Super Single ½ inch thick fame rail rated up to 3.35M RBM.
- Integral 20 inch and 27 inch frame extensions (not bolt-on) for superior strength and reliability.
- Available stainless-steel oil pan for reduced corrosion in highly corrosive applications.
- New industry-standard J1939 electrical system architecture and improved harnessing to maximize uptime.
- All new best-in-class HVAC system, designed for reliability, now includes a high-performance MAX defrost feature.
In addition to the A26, the HV Series is also available with the Cummins B6.7 and Cummins L9 engines.
The International A26 is a 12.4L engine producing up to 475 hp and 1,700 lbs-ft. of torque. It shares some common componentry with the MAN D26 engine.
The HV Series is available in a variety of specifications: regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab. Orders can be placed now with first deliveries expected in March.
In other company announcements, International announced that the HX Series of vocational trucks, International is adding a 51-inch sleeper option on the HX520 and HX620 models and the addition of the 12.4L A26 engine on HX515 and HX615 models in the spring. The HX520 and HX620 offer the Cummins X15 engine.
The company’s OnCommand Connection Telematics and OnCommand Connection Advanced Remote Diagnostics are now integrated with OnCommand Connection Electronic Driver Log (EDL) as well as Automated Driver Vehicle Inspection Reporting that “relieves the driver from a lot of the paperwork required” when conducting vehicle inspections. About 60% of the vehicle inspection process is now automated.
OnCommand also now features “Live Action Plans,” which is a predictive tool that identifies “when certain adverse conditions on a vehicle are met, it will notified customers,” said Persio Lisboa, executive vice president and COO.
Two weeks ago, Navistar announced updates to its LoneStar. Those updates include wider door openings and a new interior, which is the same as the interior available on its LT Series.
