Schenker begins air freight service to Toledo
Deutsche Bahn subsidiary Schenker has started weekly air freight round-trip service between Dubai and Toledo, Ohio, via Frankfurt-Hahn in Germany to cater for customers in the electronics, automotive, mechanical engineering and garment industries.
The first Boeing 747-400 Freighter, operated by Emirates SkyCargo, landed at Hahn on Saturday morning from the UAE with 110 tons of cargo on board. Schenker employees at Hahn then loaded additional shipments for the U.S. market. The transit time from Dubai to Toledo is 16 hours.
Schenker said the new service is tied to an intermodal logistics service on the main Asia/Europe routes called SCHENKERskybridge, which the logistics firm said compares with ocean cargo for freight rates. Schenker also provides a similar service from Asia to Vancouver, Canada, for the North American market.
“Based on the good experience we had with our direct flight between Hahn and Toledo last year, and on the new orders we have won, in part thanks to the BAX integration, we are now offering our customers a single-source link between Asia, Europe and America,” said Thomas C. Lieb, member of Schenker’s board responsible for global air and ocean freight operations.
