Steady intermodal growth in U.S.
Intermodal traffic carried by major U.S. railroads rose 6 percent to 222,674 trailers or containers during the week ended May 7, broadly continuing the trend of the first months of this year.
The Association of American Railroads, which compiles the traffic statistics, said cumulative volume for the first 18 weeks of 2005 totaled 3.9 million trailers or containers, an increase of 7 percent on the year-earlier period.
By contrast, intermodal volume carried by Canadian railroads during the week ended May 7 declined 3 percent to 43,394 trailers or containers, when compared to last year.
