Returning champion Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) scored first place in the 2020 FreightTech 25. The Seattle-based disrupter is often the topic of everything from conference presentations to novels as the logistics industry attempts to adapt to its lightning-fast pace.

Amazon took home first place during the 2019 FreightTech 25 as well, leading a pack of innovators. This year’s second place winner, supply chain platform project44, is also reclaiming its previous spot on the list.

Champions of efficient freight, Convoy, took third place this year, unseating Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) and moving up one spot from last year. Logistics powerhouse J.B. Hunt (NASDAQ: JBHT) also moved up one slot from last year, coming in fourth place.

This year’s fifth place winner, fleet management platform KeepTruckin, moved up several spaces from its tenth place spot last year.

FreightWaves announced the full list of 2020 FreightTech 25 winners during FreightWaves LIVE Chicago on Wednesday, Nov. 13. The FreightTech 25, chosen from the FreightTech 100, highlights the most innovative and disruptive companies across the freight industry, featuring both cutting-edge upstarts and top-notch traditional powers.

This year’s list includes 16 returning winners from last year’s awards and nine first-timers.

“Last year when we decided to roll out an awards recognition, we wanted to do it differently. A lot of awards in the industry are pay to play, and they end up meaning nothing,” FreightWaves CEO Craig Fuller said. “We decided to create a freight tech award that has actual meaning.”

Companies named in the FreightTech 100 were judged by an external panel of industry experts, with voting conducted and overseen by accounting firm Katz, Sapper & Miller (KSM). Each member of the panel ranked their top 25 companies on a 1 to 25 point basis. The companies generating the most points comprise the FreightTech 25.
