Gebrüder Weiss announced Aug. 8 that Heinz Senger-Weiss, managing director of the Air & Sea division, is resigning at the end of the year “for personal reasons” and that it has hired Lothar Thoma.

Headquartered in Austria, Gebrüder Weiss is a transportation and logistics company with more than 7,100 employees and 150 company-owned locations.

“We respect the decision of Heinz Senger-Weiss and thank him for his great commitment to the company. For 20 years, 15 years of which as a member of the management board, he has successfully contributed to the development of Gebrüder Weiss and has had a lasting influence on the orange corporate culture,” said Rudolf Christian Stiehl, supervisory board chairman, in a statement from the company.

Senger-Weiss assumed the position of regional managing director of Air & Sea in 2003. Since becoming a member of the management board in 2005, he has been in charge of the Air & Sea, Sales and Customs divisions.

Thoma, who will join the Gebrüder Weiss Air & Sea division on Sept. 1, has more than 20 years of experience in the logistics industry and most recently was the CEO of “an international logistics group,” the company said, adding that he “has held various executive positions with other renowned international transport and logistics companies.”

Steven Neal will serve on the Board of Harbor Commissioners until June 2025.

Stiehl said, “With Dr. Lothar Thoma, an experienced logistics expert joins the company. Thanks to his international management competence, he has all the prerequisites for managing the Air & Sea division at Gebrüder Weiss.”

The Long Beach City Council on Aug. 6 voted unanimously to confirm Mayor Robert Garcia’s appointment of Steven Neal to the Board of Harbor Commissioners, which oversees the Port of Long Beach and the staff of the city’s harbor department.

Neal served on the City Council from 2010 to 2014. His first meeting as a harbor commissioner is scheduled for Aug. 26.

Neal was appointed to a six-year term through June 2025. He is replacing Lori Ann Guzmán, whose term began in December 2013 and ends Aug. 12 as she embarks on her new responsibilities as city manager of Costa Mesa, Calif.

Neal is the senior pastor for LIFE Gospel Ministries. He has served on the Long Beach Transit board and the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network board and was chairman of the Measure A Citizens’ Oversight Committee. He also is co-founder of the Economic and Policy Impact Center, a new nonprofit agency working to advance economic opportunity for working families.
