Hanjin terminal at Busan Newport opens
Korean ocean carrier Hanjin Shipping said Friday its operations have begun at its new dedicated container terminal in Busan Newport.
The 4,000-TEU Hanjin Los Angeles was the first ship to call at the new terminal, which has a design capacity of 2 million TEUs per year, with three berths and nearly 700,000 square meters of yard space.
Busan Newport is a deepwater container terminal complex 25 miles west of the old Busan port. The Busan Port Authority plans to migrate most container activity to Busan Newport. DP World operates the first terminal at the complex, while Hyundai Merchant Marine is due to open a 1.4 million TEU capacity terminal later this year.
