Lowenthal to lead harbor commission

Colonna selected as vice president; both have one-year terms.

In addition to Long Beach elections, appointments are announced by ChartCo, Hill International, Pelican Products and West of England.

   Commissioner Bonnie Lowenthal on Monday was elected president of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, which oversees the Port of Long Beach and the staff of the city’s harbor department.
   The five-member board also elected Frank Colonna as vice president and Lou Anne Bynum as secretary. Each July commissioners select a president and two officers to serve one-year terms. The commission’s new officers will begin their duties Aug. 12.
   Lowenthal has served Long Beach in a public role for decades. She is a former state assemblywoman, city councilwoman, vice mayor and Long Beach Unified School District Board member. 
   Lowenthal said she looked forward to the “challenge of improving the port so it can continue to be an economic driver for the city we love.”

   Malaika D’souza has been named as ChartCo’s new representative for the North and South American regions.
   D’souza, credited with successfully growing ChartCo’s revenues and customer relationships across India and the Middle East over the past three years, has relocated to Toronto to take up the full-time position as the commercial lead for the North and South American markets.
   ChartCo said the move coincides with the market-wide rollout of its OneOcean platform, which encompasses the entire suite of the company’s navigation, compliance and shoreside monitoring applications.
   “We are investing and growing into many maritime markets around the world such as China, Japan, Taiwan, Canada and USA” said Howard Stevens, ChartCo chief commercial officer. “By providing representatives across the world, we can ensure that our customers and future customers have the best possible network in their market.”

   Steven M. Morris has joined global construction risk manager Hill International (NYSE:HIL) as its aviation sector leader. 
   Morris has more than 30 years of experience in global practice for both commercial and public works aviation programs. Most recently, he was the global vice president of aviation for Jacobs and oversaw more than 1,500 professionals on a variety of airport assignments. Prior to Jacobs, Morris was president and CEO of Morris Airport Consulting Inc. 
   Hill Chief Executive Officer Raouf Ghali said, “We are excited to bring a professional of Steven’s caliber to Hill. With our focus in the aviation sector, Steve’s leadership and expertise will help Hill deliver existing assignments and secure new wins at airports around the world.”

   Pelican Products Inc. has hired Frank Gennaco as director of worldwide procurement.
   Gennaco will be responsible for the consistent delivery of components and finished goods required to maximize customer on-time delivery service levels with the right amount of inventory. He also will support the sourcing team and work with supply chain operations to ensure raw materials and finished goods will satisfy Pelican’s global demand.
   Gennaco has nearly 25 years of purchasing and supply chain experience. He previously worked for the multinational conglomerate Honeywell International Inc. across numerous divisions of the company. 
   Pelican Products is a portfolio company of Behrman Capital, a private equity investment firm based in New York and San Francisco. It designs and manufactures high-performance protective cases, temperature-controlled packaging solutions, advanced portable lighting systems and rugged gear.

   The West of England, an A-rated mutual marine insurer, has hired Will Tobin to head its offshore business. 
   West of England said Tobin has substantial experience in the offshore sector and until recently held a similar position at another International Group club. He will augment the West of England’s existing offshore team, helping to expand the club’s client base and project its service to a global membership in this specialized area of operation.
   Global CEO Tom Bowsher said the hiring of Tobin “is further evidence of our determination to grow and diversify our business in a manner which benefits our members by investing in the right products and people.”
   West of England said its new offices are in the heart of London’s insurance sector and that it has “a new brand identity that reflects both the club’s contemporary, forward-looking outlook and its 150 years of service to the global shipping industry.”
