Truck transportation jobs rose a solid 9,600 jobs in October from September, climbing to 1,463,700 jobs, up from 1,454,100 jobs, according to figures released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

With a revision in August numbers, it means that the truck transportation sector has added 14,200 jobs in just two months.

The figures are still below a year ago. In September 2019, the truck transportation sector stood at 1,529,700 jobs.

After a slight move upward in September, rail transportation employment continued its downward slide. Although the September figure was revised upward to 146,100 jobs, an upward revision of 200 jobs, the latest figure for October puts that month at 145,800 jobs, below even where it stood in August. A year ago, rail had 167,400 jobs.

Warehousing and storage continued its relentless rise. Jobs in that sector were up 28,100 to 1,268,100. The number of jobs in that sector is now more than 76,000 jobs above where it was last year, with more than a third of that gain coming in just the last month.
