NPTC hands out awards, announces CTP graduating class of 78

On its 25th anniversary of the program, the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) graduated 78 new members of its Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) program, bringing the total number of graduates from the program to over 1,700, said Gary Petty, president & CEO of NPTC.

Petty welcomed attendees to this 2018 version of the organization’s annual conference in Cincinnati the news of the new graduating class as well as a series of other awards annually given by the association. NPTC is also welcoming a new board chair this year in Carol Heinowski, logistics manager-safety & compliance for Meijer Inc.

Perry noted that this year’s conference features the largest number of first-time members and the largest number of fleet customers ever and features over 1,200 attendees, 164 exhibitors and 35 speakers.

In announcing the 78 CTP graduates, Mari Robert, senior director of Frito-Lay, noted the accomplishment of Jody Sandy, from Hy-Vee, who topped the list with the highest score among the graduates.

During the welcoming address, Perry announced the winners of the association’s annual awards, sponsored by SmartDrive.

Dan P. Smith Life Achievement Award: Dan Norris, retired fleet director, Pepsi Beverages Co.

Private Fleet Executive of the Year: Bill Hartman, senior fleet manager, VF Jeanswear

Private Fleet Member of the Year: Erle Bergstrom, transportation manager, Orscheln Farm and Home

Private Fleet Safety Professional of the Year: Todd Porter, vice president of safety and compliance, Sentinel Transportation

NPTC Excellence in Membership-Fleet: Chuck Amen, corporate transportation operations manager, Hillyard

NPTC Excellence in Membership-Allied: John Trahan, director of business development, Centerline Drivers

NPTC Excellence in Backhauling: Jacob Klingbeil, director of transportation, Walgreen Oshkosh

Allied Member of the Year: Vigillo
