RailAmerica July carloads dip 2.4%
RailAmerica Inc., a holding company for 43 short-line railroads in the United States and Canada, said total freight carloads for July were 102,158, down 2.4 percent compared to 104,662 in July 2004.
Lower coal shipments from the Powder River Basin and the recently enacted routing protocol between Canadian National Railway Co. and Norfolk Southern contributed to the decline in July, RailAmerica said.
For the six months ended July 31, RailAmerica’s total carloads increased 7 percent to 759,107 from 709,190 in the year-earlier period.
