A Sandy Hook Pilots Association captain died Wednesday from injuries sustained in a fall while boarding a vessel.
Timothy M. Murray had been piloting vessels in and out of the Port of New York and New Jersey for more than eight years.
Murray reportedly fell from a pilot ladder while boarding a tanker inbound to the port at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was evacuated to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Murray is survived by his wife and five children.
The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the accident.
The Sandy Hook Pilots Association provides pilotage services to vessels entering or departing the Port of New York and New Jersey, the Hudson and East rivers, Atlantic City, Jamaica Bay, and Long Island Sound. It is headquartered in Staten Island, New York.
Another Sandy Hook pilot died in a fall in December.
