Shippers seeking large fleet carrier partners for end-to-end solutions

Larger carriers can provide more for shippers in long run

WTT?!? Interview with Les Feldman of Cargo Solution Express

In today’s evolving truck transportation market, shippers are looking for large carriers to partner with from beginning to end in order to become more competitive and efficient.

“One of the advantages of bigger carriers is that, on one side, the inbound freight can be unloaded, and then the driver can then move the truck to the other side of the same distribution center or building and the outbound freight can be loaded,” said Les Feldman, senior vice president of business development at Cargo Solution Express. “As a shipper, now they do not have to manage two carriers — one for the inbound and one for the potential outbound. You are just dealing with one carrier — a more synergistic feel.”

In its two decades of growth, Cargo Solution Express has acquired many locations around the U.S. with 24/7 terminals. Rapidly approaching 1,000 trucks, Cargo Solution Express is a family-owned company that can offer the same personalized service a smaller carrier could but on a larger scale with inbound and outbound services.

“We try to differentiate ourselves from the biggest carriers by providing one-stop shopping,” Feldman said. “We operate quickly and efficiently. With the size of our fleet and our operations teams, we can bring the freight in, with drayage, to our terminal, strip the containers down, reload on 52-footers and have them all the way across the country in five to six days.”

According to Karan Kandhari, chief marketing officer at Cargaison Logistics Express, the search for larger carriers to take on more responsibilities has been expedited over the last couple of years as shippers have started to realize the difficulty in managing all the smaller pieces of the process.

“Having a carrier as the single point of contact — the people who do everything for [the shipper] has been found [by shippers] to be much simpler,” Kandhari said. “For the shippers, partnering with a reliable carrier allows shippers to work during the day and rest during the night knowing the goods will be delivered as promised.”

In order to survive the current competitive market, carriers can also utilize offshore partners.

“You hire partners for the long term,” Kandhari said. “In regards to operating costs, when the market starts moving around, you have established relationships so you can continue to grow your profit margins.”
