This fireside chat recap is from FreightWaves’ Small Fleet & Owner-Operator Summit Wednesday.
FIRESIDE CHAT TOPIC: Creating revenue opportunities in a volatile transportation market.
DETAILS: Ashley Savage and FreightWaves’ Zach Strickland discuss strategies for navigating a tumultuous transportation environment.
SPEAKER: Savage is the national sales manager at COOP by Ryder.
BIO: COOP by Ryder is a business-to-business commercial truck sharing platform. Savage’s sales and field experience have enabled her to create additional value for private fleet owners with idle equipment by helping to generate an additional revenue stream for those businesses through the COOP platform. Savage began her career in the transportation industry nearly 10 years ago with Ryder and has held various sales positions in rentals, leases and training.
KEY QUOTES FROM SAVAGE:
“We have a B2B platform so these owners who are experiencing an array of [challenges] can list their units on our platform, and we will rent out their vehicles to other businesses who are looking for additional equipment right now.”
“Our driver population is getting a little bit older and they’re retiring. Additionally, our drivers are wanting more money. They’re spending time away from their family, they’re on the roads. So it’s becoming a lot more costly to hire drivers. Also just finding the talent in general is a little bit difficult.”
“[Smaller fleets] are not really able to absorb as much and have a net profit like they were used to last year. So it’s really causing them to take a hard look at operationally, what makes sense. ‘Can I take this load? If I don’t, how is that going to impact my business and my revenue stream?’”
“We are talking to a lot more businesses who are in that position with that uncertainty, and they want some relief. And we’re able to provide that to them in the short term while we figure out what’s going on in this market.”
