Technology platforms as a service in high demand

Konexial offers state-of-the-art, next-generation tech for trucking companies

Founded roughly six years ago, Knoxville, Tennessee-based Konexial is a trucking technology company dedicated to meeting the needs of companies in the industry by creating state-of-the-art technology that helps improve day-to-day operations, according to Ken Evans, chief technology officer at Konexial.

“We take complex things and we make them simple,” Evans said. “Our technology allows users to get everything they need regarding load executions, digital documentation, communication, proof and delivery.”

Konexial technology also offers edge computing — bringing computation and data storage closer to the sources of data. That allows for data processing at greater speeds and volumes, which leads to better, real-time results. “Edge computing is a fancy way of saying, ‘It works better,’” Evans added.

In the world of trucking, edge computing is preferred over cloud computing as all data is processed inside the trucks. If data is sent back to a central server (cloud computing), more time and money are required and it will not work if the network is unavailable. These are issues that drivers face every day, Evans said.

“Konexial is the first company that basically moved the central server into the driver’s smart device — the phone or tablet [inside the truck],” he added. “It doesn’t matter if the network isn’t available. The driver doesn’t see any change in the performance. All data is still collected, analyzed and given to the driver.”

The company also prides itself on its flexibility as it pertains to meeting its customers’ needs. Because of this, Konexial has seen increased growth over the past year, not just in itself, but among its customers.

“Requirements are constantly changing. We have the ability to customize for the fleet manager or owner because we want to provide a level of service that is uncommon in the industry,” Evans said. “We not only make an effort to listen to what our customers are trying to accomplish, but we take what we know and develop things that they can’t get off the shelf.”

Service is the top priority when it comes to partnering with technology companies, something Konexial promises to deliver, he added.

“You want your people to be people that managers and drivers can identify with — they need to understand them,” Evans said. “We hire local people and we have very specific criteria in order to meet this need. We also invest heavily in our people to become compliance experts.”

One of the biggest challenges trucking companies and fleets face is the need to partner with multiple technology companies. Because of this, Konexial has also been working on a connected platform with everything in one place.

“We looked into this issue and saw an opportunity. We learned that a system that works and can do everything in one place is what the people in this industry really want,” Evans said. “We have been building that out and are now offering that. If you partner with Konexial, you can get everything in one place.”
