The Daily Dash is a quick look at what’s happening in the freight ecosystem. In today’s edition, we look at the impact of the highway reauthorization bill, a significant acquisition by DP World and more.

The High Five

1. The U.S. House of Representatives passed a highway reauthorization bill on Thursday that includes a provision to raise trucking insurance liability from $750,000 to $2 million, mandates automatic braking on new trucks and increases scrutiny of truck dispatch services. John Gallagher from Washington

2. A handful of freight rail-related projects have received federal funding as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s awarding of $905.25 million to 24 projects in 18 states via the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America discretionary program. Joanna Marsh’s story

3. DP World has acquired supply chain solutions provider syncreon at an enterprise value of $1.2 billion. The Dubai state-owned port operator said the deal will allow it to provide end-to-end solutions capabilities to cargo owners. Michigan-based syncreon primarily designs and operates supply chains for the automotive and technology industries. Todd Maiden’s report

4. The supply chain fantasy is the ability to deliver directly to every person anywhere in the world. Drone manufacturer Zipline wants to make that dream a reality and Thursday announced its $250 million in new funding. With the new funds comes a $2.75 billion valuation. Grace Sharkey with more

5. Earlier this year, Carrie Palmer got a panicked phone call from a client. The trucking company had gotten hit by a ransomware attack minutes earlier, and it wanted the South Carolina-based lawyer’s guidance on what its next steps should be. Nate Tabak’s feature
