Carrier Breakdown by Size

Estimates of how many owner-operators are in the market is often inflated by 200 or 300 percent. This means at some point freight brokers will have to focus on larger fleets to grow their books of business. When doing this it is important to know that there is a sweet spot in the market that is often overlooked by freight brokers and shippers.

It really doesn’t make sense when you say that over 80% of small fleets (5-7 trucks) source their freight directly from shippers. 99.99% of us, small players, get freight from Load Hoards, not from shippers directly. No one just knows how to get freight from a shipper. It’s a unicorn that everyone talks about but no one has seen. At least this is based on our personal experience (20 truck fleet) and a dozen of other small companies that we know. No one feom us sources freight directly from shippers. Because no one knows how to. And we think direct freight for small fleets just doesn’t exist.
