Moynihan to retire from Port of Richmond

Virginia's Port of Richmond has started its search for a new executive director.

Moynihan

Martin J. Moynihan, the port's current executive director, recently told the port commission that he intends to retire in July. He has served at the helm of the port, located 78 miles up the James River from the Port of Norfolk, since June 1990.

Prior to this appointment, Moynihan served more than 30 years in the Coast Guard. He retired at the rank of captain.

Moynihan is credited with steering niche carriers and cargoes to the Port of Richmond. He also helped improve the port's dockside facilities, worked with the Army Corps of Engineers on James River projects, and supported intermodal and maritime transportation in Central Virginia.
