CSX INTERMODAL REVAMPS ATLANTA SERVICE

CSX INTERMODAL REVAMPS ATLANTA SERVICE

CSX Intermodal said it will withdraw all trailer service to and from Charlotte and Atlanta, including Atlanta/Chicago, Atlanta/Northeast and Atlanta/Florida, effective July 31.

The move refocuses CSXI's Southeastern service on long-haul and container lanes in order to increase reliability and improve growth in this higher margin business.

The service changes will provide faster and more reliable service for freight originating in Chicago and Ohio destined to Florida, CSXI said. Transit times will improve five to eight hours by bypassing Atlanta.

Eliminating the Chicago/Atlanta train will also make CSXI's two Chicago/Florida trains more reliable and better able to make scheduled connections in Jacksonville for other Florida destinations, CSXI said.

The company expects a 10 to 15-percent reduction in trailer processing at its Jacksonville terminal, freeing capacity for longer-haul business.
