ABCs of transportation

Claitor’s Publishing has recently issued a second edition of Daniel W. Raab’s Transportation Terms and Conditions.

A Miami-based attorney who specializes in transportation issues, Raab told us his aim was to create a book that will be useful not only for lawyers, but for men and women who work in the logistics departments of shippers or at carriers.

The book, which Raab said he wanted to be portable enough to tote about to meetings, has three parts: a dictionary of transportation terms; reproduction of 16 forms such as bills of lading, air cargo manifests, and warehouse receipts; and the text of eight key transportation statutes such as the Carmack Amendment and 1984 Shipping Act.

In the dictionary, Raab has sprinkled citations to both applicable laws and links to various Websites.

“It’s a nice, easy reference if someone is reading a contract or has a claim,” he said.

Raab is also a contributing editor to the multivolume reference Goods in Transit.

He has made several appearances on A.M. Best’s Insurance Law podcast, discussing recent transportation cases. (Chris Dupin)
