AMERICAN AIRLINES APPLIES FOR CHINA RIGHTS
American Airlines has applied to U.S. authorities for the right to fly
to China starting in April 2001.
One additional carrier from China and from the U.S. can enter the
U.S.-China aviation market in 2001 under a bilateral agreement signed by
the two countries this year.
American wants to fly to Shanghai from Chicago daily and to Beijing from
Chicago three times per week with B777 aircraft.
The Dallas-based airline will compete for the new rights against United
Parcel Service, which says it should be awarded the China slots to serve
air-freight shippers.
