Vaughn becomes first non-Japanese director of NYK group

Tokyo-based NYK has broken with tradition and appointed U.S. executive Lanny Vaughn as the first non-Japanese member of its board of directors.

Vaughn is president of NYK’s logistics and intermodal affiliate GST Corp., based in Memphis. He will join the NYK group's board April 1 alongside Saburo Yamagata, president of NYK Logistics (America) Inc., also promoted director of the parent company, and other Japanese executives.

As part of the annual revision of its board and senior management, NYK has promoted Yukio Ozawa from senior managing director and chief financial officer to executive vice president of the group.

Tadatoshi Mamiya, who has been in charge of bulk and energy shipping, will retire as executive vice president April 1 to become a special advisor.

Koji Miyahara, who became president of NYK last year, will retain the top executive position of the Japanese group.
