EXPRESS CONTAINER SERVICE COMMENCES INTRA-MED LINK

Express Container Service, the niche shipping line managed by former Hapag-Lloyd executive Werner Pinnow, is launching a weekly Mediterranean/Turkey shuttle service.

The one-ship service will call at the port of Trieste, in Italy, and Izmir, in Turkey. As with its former Trieste/Hong Kong service, Express Container Service will move cargo intermodally between the Trieste hub and points in southern Europe and the south of Germany.

The first sailing from Trieste is scheduled on Nov. 26 or 27, and the the ship will call at Izmir on Dec. 1.

Rainer Voelme, managing director of Express Container Service, said that the company is chartering the entire capacity of a ship of UniFeeder to run the service.

Express Container Service said that it currently has no short-term plan to reinstate its former Trieste/Asia service, stopped in June.
