NEW DUPONT, BDP LOGISTICS JOINT VENTURE A PRODUCT OF OSRA
DuPont and BDP International have used the new freedoms in the Ocean Shipping Reform Act to form a joint venture logistics firm.
The new company, BDP Transport LLC, brings together the logistics management expertise of DuPont and BDP to assist all types and sizes of shippers with logistics.
“The Ocean Shipping Reform Act not only planted the seeds for a new market, but it also planted the seeds for new relationships,” said Richard J. Bolte Jr., president of BDP International during a press conference at the Intermodal Expo in Atlanta.
Company executives said that other changes, such as consolidation of the shipping industry and the emergence of Internet-based logistics technologies, also encouraged the development of BDP Transport.
Through BDP Transport, BDP will offer its forwarding, customs brokerage, transportation management and systems, while DuPont brings its industry knowledge, safety reputation and strong ties to ocean carriers.
Together, the companies say BDP Transport will provide shippers with competitively priced carriage and logistics services that extend beyond basic transportation services. BDP Transport will first focus on full ocean container loads of inbound and export freight, and later move into other types of freight transport, such as air and intermodal. DuPont will not have access to the BDP Transport information.
The firm will be managed by a board of directors, consisting of three executives from each company. BDP Transport’s president and executive
director will be appointed by May, Bolte said.
Neither BDP nor DuPont would reveal how profits from the joint venture would be shared.
