Pet food retailer Chewy to build e-commerce fulfillment center in Florida

Chewy will build a large fulfillment center in Ocala, Fla., which will employ 600 people.

Chewy, an online seller of pet food and products, will build a large fulfillment center in Ocala, Fla., Florida Gov. Rick Scott’s office announced Thursday.
Founded in 2011, the company offers about 20,000 items for dogs, cats and other pets. It has warehouses in Pennsylvania, Indiana and Nevada.
Chewy, headquartered in Dania Beach, Fla., said the new facility, which will employ 600 people, will improve efficiency and delivery times to customers.
The state of Florida and local economic development organizations in Marion and Ocala counties offered Chewy a package of incentives to select the Florida location for its fulfillment center. Details of state’s contributions to the $49 million project remain confidential for the time being.
