DHL Global Forwarding has launched a new ocean freight solution called DHL Ocean Thermonet, which is tailored to the Life Sciences and Healthcare sector, the company said.
The solution provides supply chain temperature visibility; 24/7 proactive monitoring and intervention based on pre-determined touch points; and DHL’s SmartSensor technology, which is in line with GDP regulations.
Sensors continuously measure temperature, humidity and location parameters.
Data can be viewed in real time through LifeTrack’s web or mobile application solution. The application illustrates shipment details, including routing, movement milestones and interventions made to ensure cargo safety.

David Bang

David Bang, Global Head of DHL Temperature Management Solutions and CEO of LifeConEx, told American Shipper that DHL Ocean Thermonet is primarily focusing on trades in both directions between Asia and the United States; Europe and the United States, Europe and Latin America, and Asia and Europe. In addition, the solution may expand to other trades in the future.
The forwarder also launched DHL Air Thermonet in 2014, Bang said. While DHL Air Thermonet currently serves a wider network, DHL Ocean Thermonet offers a more budget friendly option. Customers can switch from air to ocean for more stable products that have broader temperature ranges, Bang explained.
