Leading Edge buys Miami NVO

Leading Edge Logistics (LEL), a third-party logistics company, has acquired non-vessel-operating common carrier Horizon International Shipping of Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The NVO will join LEL’s Puerto Rico division LEL Caribe. This is the company’s second acquisition of the year (LEL bought C&F Logistics of San Juan in March). The company said these purchases allow it to expand services to other areas in the Caribbean, such as the Cayman Islands and Panama.
“By effectively serving the Caribbean market we are able to introduce our company to the mainland U.S., Canada, and Mexico shippers that sell in Puerto Rico,” said LEL Chief Executive Officer Thomas Torcomian.
Torcomian said the Horizon International Shipping buy will give his company another warehouse in Miami as well as allowing it to condense and adjust operations in Elizabeth, N.J.; Jacksonville, Fla.; and San Juan.
Horizon International Shipping, which is not affiliated with Horizon Lines (an ocean carrier and logistics services company that operates in the U.S. domestic trades, including Puerto Rico), was founded by Vicky Arbelaez in 1995. She will stay on with the company in Miami. – Geoff Whiting
