L.A.-Long Beach ICTF board weighs expansion

The organization that oversees a Los Angeles-Long Beach ports container yard will meet Oct. 26 to discuss expanding the facility.

The Intermodal Container Transfer Facility Joint Powers Authority said Union Pacific Railroad has proposed a project that would more than double the ICTF's throughput capacity from 725,000 to 1.5 million containers per year.

The proposed project would incorporate a number of environmental improvements including electric overhead cranes, cleaner yard tractors, and ultra-low emission locomotives.

The meeting will be held on Oct. 26, 6 p.m., at the Silverado Park Social Hall, 1545 West 31st St., Long Beach 90810.

The 148-acre facility is located about five miles north of the ports, at the northern terminus of State Highway 103 and is operated by Union Pacific. The ICTF-JPA is a public entity created in 1983 to oversee the development and operation of the ICTF, and is administered by a governing board that operates separately and apart from the cities of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
