King Abdullah Port continues expanding in 2015

The Saudi Arabian port reached a throughput of 1.3 million TEUs in 2015 and opened its fourth berth during the year, which gave it the capability to handle over 2.7 million TEUs a year.

King Abdullah Port handled 1.3 million TEUs in 2015, which was its second year of operation.
The port now has the capability to handle over 2.7 million TEUs a year since its fourth berth opened in May, King Abdullah Port said.
In September, the port signed a partnership agreement with NYK Group, which will operate the port’s first roll-on/roll-off berth. The berth will handle bulk cargo and vehicles and will have the capacity to transport 300,000 cars a year. The first phase is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2016.
King Abdullah port is situated in eastern Saudi Arabia along the coast of the Red Sea and is 73 miles north of the Jeddah Islamic Port. The port is owned by Ports Development Company, a joint venture between Emaar Economic City and Bin Laden Group.
