The Danish shipping giant is beefing up its cyber security, automation and big data analytics by hiring “world-class talent” for its India-based digital technology center, according to local media outlet The Hindu.

A.P. Moller-Maersk said it is planning to hire more than 200 engineers to work on artificial intelligence (AI) and big data analytics at its new Center of Excellence in Bengaluru, India, according to local media outlet The Hindu.
The Danish shipping giant plans to undergo a digital transformation to improve hidden insights, drive automation and improve customer experience, The Hindu reported. Operational efficiency will play a large role in the transformation, including “predictive maintenance,” where sensors monitor the health of the ship and the goods inside the containers and send alerts.
“It not only serves our customers better, we also have a massive impact on sustainability within the company,” Navneet Kapoor, head of the Global Service Centres, A.P. Moller-Maersk, said in an interview with The Hindu.
“We will invest in world-class talent around data and digital engineering and automation. We are aggressively hiring for those roles. Initially we are looking for experienced engineers. Later we will go to the (college) campuses,” said Kapoor. The shipping company said the additional hiring would assist its sites in Manila, Philippines; Chengdu, China; and Chennai, Mumbai, and Pune in India.
Kapoor also noted that the firm is expanding and solidifying its information security after June’s massive cyber attack on Maersk Line and others.
“Cybersecurity is very important for us and we are investing significantly in that area,” said Kapoor.
