SCFI falls on major trades

Spot container rates from Shanghai to Europe, the Mediterranean and the United States all declined since last Friday, according to the latest figures from the Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index.

   The Shanghai Shipping Exchange’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) fell 3.2 percent from last Friday’s reading of 918.83 to a reading of 889.38.
   Rates from Shanghai to Europe, the Mediterranean and the United States all declined since last Friday.
   Rates from Shanghai to Europe declined 4.5 percent since last week, from $1,015 per TEU to $969 per TEU, while rates from Shanghai to the Mediterranean fell 4.7 percent, from $951 per TEU to $906 per TEU.
   Meanwhile, rates from Shanghai to the U.S. West Coast dropped 3.3 percent since last week, from $1,378 per FEU to $1,333 per FEU, while rates from Shanghai to the U.S. East Coast slipped 2.1 percent, from $2,356 per FEU to $2,307 per FEU.
