New York presses Brooklyn waterfront development

New York wants to develop a 1.1 million-square-foot warehouse on the Brooklyn waterfront in the Sunset Park section.

The city’s Economic Development Corporation on Monday issued a request for development of Federal Building #2, which was built for the Navy in 1916 and is currently administered by the General Services Administration. The site is adjacent to the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, which is being reactivated as a breakbulk facility and currently hosts an automobile receiving and processing facility.

The city said it would like a light manufacturer to move into the reinforced concrete, eight-story building, but said wholesale/distributor uses will also be considered. It's expected that an adjacent 100,000-square-foot parcel will be used for parking, but other uses that comply with zoning regulations may be proposed.
