HMM inks Vietnam port development deal with SNP

The South Korean ocean carrier signed a memorandum of understanding with Saigon Newport Corp. for the joint development of port and container depot facilities in Vietnam.

   South Korean ocean carrier Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) signed a memorandum of understanding last Thursday with Saigon Newport Corp. (SNP) for the joint development of port and container depot facilities in Vietnam, according to an HMM press release.
   “This MOU will be an opportunity for both HMM and SNP to strengthen the partnership and expand the scope of cooperation, not only in Vietnam but also in a global scale,” HMM CEO Yoo Chang-Keun said.
   The carrier’s volumes in Vietnam will increase by over 50 percent from last year, driven by rapid growth of emerging markets, Yoo explained.
   Ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting’s Port Dashboard tool shows that in Vietnam, HMM:
     • Operates three services and purchases slots on four services calling Ho Chi Minh City;
     • Operates one service and purchase slots on three services calling Ho Chi Minh (Cai Mep);
     • Operates three services and purchases slots on four services calling Ho Chi Minh (VICT/Cat Lai);
     • Operates two services and purchase slots on two services calling Haiphong;
     • And operates one service calling Da Nang.
