APL ADDS SHIPMENT EXCEPTION-MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE
APL has added a shipment exception-management program to its Internet
web page.
The "QuickReport" sorts and filters the contents of the customer’s
shipment data and generates a report which enables the shipper to view
exceptions that may be of interest.
Shippers set the parameters used to determine which shipments are
encountering problems. These parameters can be modified or saved in the
system to generate future reports.
APL said delivery of reports can be pre-scheduled to arrive
automatically by e-mail at the same time each day or each week.
APL said that the Internet has the potential to overload logistics
managers with extraneous data, and logistics managers don’t have time "to
sort through endless pages or screens of data looking for a single
‘exceptional’ shipment."
