WAN HAI’S PROFITS SOAR
Wan Hai, the largest intra-Asian carrier, reported a 113 percent jump in
net income for 1998, to NT$2.73 billion ($85 million), despite the Asian
crisis.
This compared with a net income after tax of NT$1.28 billion for 1997,
when the Taiwanese carrier suffered a sharp fall in profits.
The line’s 1998 profits exceeded profit results for both 1997 and 1996.
Operating income for 1998 was up 52 percent to NT$2.48 billion ($77
million).
Revenue increased 6 percent to NT$24.68 billion ($767 million), from
NT$23.3 billion in 1997.
From 1994 to 1998, Wan Hai’s revenue has increased 60 percent and net
income has quadrupled.
