American Airlines Cargo cuts fuel surcharge

American Airlines, by far the largest carrier at Miami International Airport, said Thursday that its air cargo division will decrease its fuel surcharge for most U.S.-origin international shipments effective October 16.

American Airlines Cargo will cut the surcharge for international shipments from 60 cents per kilogram to 50 centers per kilogram. The fuel surcharge fee will be applied for most non-U.S. origin shipments, American said, unless the fee cannot be imposed for regulatory reasons.

The fuel index is based on an average of five jet-fuel spot markets. Depending on the relation to an existing threshold over a two-week period, American raises, lowers, or leaves the change unchanged.
