AIRLINES TO REDUCE FUEL SURCHARGES
Northwest Airlines Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo and Emirates SkyCargo have said they will reduce fuel surcharges for cargo shipments due to declines in aviation fuel costs.
NWA Cargo said it will reduce its fuel surcharge from 20 cents per kilogram to 15 cents per kilogram or 7 cents per pound, effective April 16.
Lufthansa and Emirates are also dropping the surcharge from 20 cents to 15 cents per kilogram, effective immediately.
The reductions are automatically linked to a fuel price index based on the average price on the world's major spot markets.
Many airlines raised the fuel surcharge to 20 cents per kilogram on March 24 as uncertainty about the prospects of the war in Iraq caused a spike in oil prices.
