GRI Roundup: Maersk Line, MSC, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and OOCL

Ocean carriers Maersk Line, MSC, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and OOCL issued general rate increases.

   Ocean carriers Maersk Line, MSC, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd and OOCL announced general rate increases for various trades.
   Maersk Line will increase rates from:
     • China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Taiwan, and Myanmar (Burma) to Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay effective March 15. Rates will increase by $750 per TEU and 40-foot non-operating reefer containers; and $1,500 per FEU, 40-foot high cube dry containers and 40-foot high cube reefer containers.
     • Far East Asia to Sudan effective April 1. Rates will increase by 100 Euros per TEU, 40-foot dry and 40-foot high cube dry containers.
     • Algeria, France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia to Mobile, Ala.; Miami, Port Everglades and Jacksonville in Florida; Savannah, Ga.; Charleston and North Charleston in South Carolina.; Wilmington, N.C.; Norfolk, Portsmouth and Newport News in Virginia.; Baltimore, Md.; Philadelphia, Pa.; Camden and Newark in New Jersey.; Boston, Mass.; Staten Island, N.Y.; and Freeport, Ill. effective April 1. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU; and $250 per FEU, 40-foot high cube and 45-foot high cube dry containers.
     • Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Montenegro, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey and the Ukraine to the same abovementioned U.S. ports effective April 1. Rates will increase by $100 per TEU; and $150 per FEU, 40-foot high cube and 45-foot high cube dry containers.
     • Syria to the same abovementioned U.S. ports effective April 1. Rates will increase by 91 Euros per TEU; and 137 Euros per FEU, 40-foot high cube and 45-foot high cube dry containers. 
     • Algeria, France, Italy, Malta, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia to New Orleans, Lake Charles and Baton Rouge in Louisiana.; and Houston, Texas effective April 1. Rates will increase by $200 per TEU; and $250 per FEU, 40-foot high cube and 45-foot high cube dry containers.
     • Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Montenegro, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey and the Ukraine to the same abovementioned U.S. Gulf Coast ports effective April 1. Rates will increase by $100 per TEU; and $150 per FEU, forty-foot high cube and 45-foot high cube dry containers.
     • Syria to the same abovementioned U.S. Gulf Coast ports effective April 1. Rates will increase by 91 Euros per TEU; and 137 Euros per FEU, 40-foot high cube and 45-foot high cube dry containers.
   MSC will increase rates on the Asia to Europe trade effective April 1, Richard Ward, a container derivatives specialist at Freight Investor Services said. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU.
   CMA CGM will increase rates from:
     • The Far East and Japan to the East Mediterranean and Black Sea for all cargo effective March 20. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU to the East Mediterranean and Black Sea, while rates will increase by 465 Euros per TEU to Syria.
     • The Far East and Japan to the West Mediterranean, Adriatic and North Africa for all cargo effective April 1. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU.
     • All Asian ports (including Japan, Southeast Asia and Bangladesh) to all North European ports (including the United Kingdom and the full range from Portugal to Russia) for all cargo effective April 1. Rates will increase by $500 per TEU.
   Hapag-Lloyd will increase rates from East Asia (excluding Japan) to all North Europe and Mediterranean destinations for all cargo and container types effective April 1. Rates will increase by $800 per TEU container and $1,600 per FEU container.
   OOCL will increase rates from the Far East (excluding Japan) to North Europe, the Mediterranean and Black Sea effective April 1. Rates will increase by $600 per TEU rated by “on-board date,” OOCL said.
