APM Terminals Mobile said Friday afternoon that rumors it is shutting down are not true.
“Not only is this not factual,” an email advisory said, the rumors “can be a deterrent and cause additional panic for our stakeholders.”
The notice continued, “APMT Mobile is doing a ton to protect everyone’s well-being, interests in the terminal and the health of the terminal. Every day we are adding to our approach on how to handle the mitigation of this virus spreading through our community and will continue until we are all in the clear.”
Mobile, Alabama, labor and management are undergoing temperature checks and completing questionnaires before entering the facility during the coronavirus crisis, according to the email.
Management either is working from home or in designated offices, and no physical interaction between employees is allowed, APM Terminals Mobile said, adding that break rooms are closed, gate clerks are naturally separated and facilities are regularly undergoing deep cleaning.
The terminal issued a reminder that hours in Mobile next week are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and badges will be issued by appointment, made by emailing MOBSEC@apmterminals.com.
“Let’s protect our industry and be good stewards of the community,” the notice said.
APM Terminals, part of A.P. Moller-Maersk, operates 78 terminals globally.
