Family-owned third-party logistics provider Wainwright Industries is adding a second facility near the Port of Charleston.
Wainwright Industries Inc. said Friday it plans to open a second distribution center near the Port of Charleston.
Family-owned Wainwright has manufacturing and third-party logistics divisions, with operations in Missouri, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The Ladson, S.C., facility has more than 600,000 square feet of space and offers just-in-time sequencing, cross-docking and deconsolidation, inventory management and other services for the automotive industry.
Wainwright’s new North Charleston location is 212,000 square feet and served by Class I railroad CSX. It will focus on warehousing and value-added logistics services for some of the Port of Charleston’s largest business sectors, especially forestry products. Forestry products, which depend on rail transport, represent 15 percent of the port’s total cargo volume, according to the South Carolina Ports Authority.
Other providers of rail-served warehouse space that serve the forest products sector in Charleston include Brown Distribution, Premier Logistics, SSA and Sunland Logistics Solutions, SCPA spokeswoman Erin Dhand said via e-mail.
