American Airlines Cargo opened an ExpediteTC cold storage pharmaceutical facility in Philadelphia, Pa. this week.
The 25,000-square-foot facility consists of a 6,000-square-foot area for controlled room temperature passive shipments requiring storage between 15 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit and 77 degrees Fahrenheit), a 3,000-square-foot refrigerated area for passive shipments requiring storage between 2 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius and a deep frozen area for shipments requiring storage between -10 degrees Celsius and -20 degrees Celsius, AA Cargo said.
AA Cargo is the only airline in the northeastern United States that has this state-of-the-art facility with the ability to handle temperature-sensitive, life science and healthcare cargo, the airline said in a statement.
ExpediteTC is a temperature-controlled service offered globally by the airfreight carrier.
The service offers both active and passive cold chain solutions. The active solution involves using advanced, temperature-controlled containers that actively regulate temperature, while the passive solution is designed for shipments that require additional sensitivity to temperature during transport and utilizes cold packs and dry ice.
