ADM JOINS IMPORT LOBBY
The Archer Daniels Midland Co. has joined the ranks of the U.S. Business Alliance for Customs Modernization.
The alliance was formed last year by a dozen large importers who were concerned about their treatment during Customs audits of their import records. It has quickly snowballed into a group that’s driven to change the way Customs works with importers.
The addition of ADM increases the BACM tally to 22 members. Some other big names in the group are Sony, BP-Amoco, Du Pont, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Target Corp. and Sears.
BACM has recently succeeded in putting its demands into legislative form, H.R. 4337, which was picked up by the House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee and inserted into the proposed bill for technical corrections to U.S. trade laws and miscellaneous duty suspension proposals.
