Agility establishes joint venture with South African logistics company

The integrated logistics provider formed a joint venture in South Africa with Johannesburg-based Super Group, offering local and multinational customers a range of logistics and supply chain solutions.

   Integrated logistics provider Agility has formed a joint venture in South Africa with supply chain management and transportation specialist Super Group after acquiring a minority stake in the company’s freight forwarding unit, Agility said.
   The new joint venture, SG Agility Proprietary Ltd., will offer local and multinational customers a variety of logistics and supply chain solutions, including air freight, ocean freight, road freight, customs clearance, warehousing and distribution.
   SG Agility will be led by Henk Theron, formerly CEO of Micor, Super Group’s freight forwarding business. The joint venture will have over 150 employees.
   The head office is in Johannesburg with branch offices in Port Elizabeth, Durban and Cape Town.
   “South Africa is vital to our strategic growth and expansion in Africa,” Agility CEO of Middle East & Africa Elias Monem said. “It has well-developed financial, legal, communications and transport sectors, along with an open trade policy and a comparatively strong domestic market.”
   Agility continues to strengthen its presence in Africa, with operations in Egypt, Algeria, Angola, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, providing logistics services across the continent, including warehousing, freight forwarding, customs clearance and project logistics. In addition, the company’s infrastructure group operates in Ghana, Rwanda, Libya, Uganda, the Ivory Coast, Malawi and Mozambique, providing a variety of services including warehouse and infrastructure construction, aviation and camp services.
