AIIS taps new executive director

   The American Institute for International Steel has appointed Richard Chriss as its new executive director, replacing David Phelps, who is retiring.
   Phelps served as the AIIS executive director and later president for the past 17 years.
   Chriss’s previous assignments include managing international trade policy for Sen. Charles Grassley from 1999-2003 and also dealing with steel trade-related issues affecting the industry. More recently, he served as an assistant general counsel in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and was managing director at Richard Chriss & Co., an international trade advisory firm.

Chris Gillis

Located in the Washington, D.C. area, Chris Gillis primarily reports on regulatory and legislative topics that impact cross-border trade. He joined American Shipper in 1994, shortly after graduating from Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Md., with a degree in international business and economics.
