AIRBORNE TO ADD SURCHARGE
Airborne Express, the Seattle-based parcel carrier, will add a 3-percent
surcharge on all shipments beginning Feb. 7 to offset a dramatic rise in jet fuel over the
past 12 months.
Airborne said the surcharge will apply to shipping charges only and will not
affect the cost of other services, such as cargo insurance or weekend deliveries.
Most air cargo carriers, including Federal Express, Lufthansa Cargo,
United Airlines, Northwest Airlines, Swisscargo, Cargolux and Korean Air
Lines, are implementing fuel surcharges in February.
